Alexander Forrest

 

 

Until his retirement from the NHS on 31st July 2007, Prof. Forrest was Consultant in Clinical Chemistry & Forensic Toxicology to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He holds the post Honorary Professor in the School of Law at the University of Sheffield. He is an external examiner in Forensic Science to the University of Bradford. He is also an examiner in toxicology for the Diploma in Forensic Medical Science of the Society of apothecaries.

From 2007 to 2012, I was in independent practice in the area that can be broadly defined as medical and forensic toxicology and chemistry whilst also holding appointments as assistant deputy coroner within the jurisdictions of South Yorkshire (West) and the East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull.

From June 2012 to March 2016, I was Senior Coroner for the South Lincolnshire Coroner’s area.

I am currently a Senior Forensic Toxicologist at Forensic Equity

I have assisted the courts, at the request of both prosecution and defence, on many occasions in relation to issues relating to the use and/or misuse of drugs and medicines, the effects that drugs have on the mind and human performance and the interpretation of laboratory tests, including cases where there is an allegation of drug facilitated sexual assault. I have been a member of panels adjudicating on allegations that athletes have been using performance enhancing drugs and have assisted such panels as an expert.

Professor Forrest's name appears on the register of toxicologists maintained by the British Toxicological Society and the Institute of Biology and he is a European Registered Toxicologist (ERT). This registration was reviewed after appraisal in 2017.

Prof. Forrest is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London & Edinburgh, a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, a Fellow and Past-president of the Chartered Society of Forensic Science (formerly named the Forensic Science Society), a Fellow and Vice President for medical coroners of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of London and a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.

He is a member of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists SOFT), a member of the International Association of Forensic Toxicologists (TIAFT) and a member of the Society of Hair Testing (SoHT).
