Dr David Berry PhD, FRCPath, MFSSoc, MRSC

Forensic Toxicologist since 1977

 

Dr David Berry is a Consultant Clinical and Forensic Toxicologist and has spent his whole career working as an Analytical/Clinical Toxicologist.

 

He is a Doctor of Philosophy, a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

 

Dr Berry has studied analytical chemistry, biochemistry, clinical pharmacology and toxicology and was employed at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical Toxicology Unit for most of his working life. He has been involved with toxicology and the measurement of drugs and alcohol including interpretation of results for the past 47 years.

 

He is familiar with the clinical and adverse effects of both illicit drugs, and prescribed medications and also drug interactions.

 

Dr Berry is a professional member of the Forensic Science Society, the International Association of Forensic Toxicologists, British Pharmacological Society, The International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Toxicology, Society of Hair Testing, Association of Clinical Biochemists and The American Association of Clinical Chemistry (including TDM/Toxicology division), The London Toxicology Group and the United Kingdom and Ireland Forensic Toxicology Society. He is a registered practitioner with the Health Professions Council (registration No. CS00183) and in addition has also undertaken specialist Medical Review Officer Training. IHe is also a member of the European Work place Drug Testing Society and listed with the National Crime Agency to act as an expert advisor on Clinical and Forensic Toxicological issues when required by Police Forces throughout the country.

 

Dr Berry has published more than 100 peer reviewed scientific papers relating to the toxicology and analysis of drugs.

 

Until recently Dr David Berry was Honorary Consultant Clinical Scientist to The Epilepsy Society where he advised about monitoring drug therapy in epilepsy, development of analytical methods for newer antiepileptic drugs and collaborated on development of research projects and new drug testing programmes. In addition he acts as Consultant to a number of Healthcare organisations for whom he undertakes Toxicological/Medical reviews as part of their workplace drug testing programme.

 

He was also the Consultant Toxicologist to a Hair Drug Testing Service for which I prepared hair drug and alcohol testing expert reports mainly for the family and criminal courts.

 

In January 2018 Dr Berry was appointed Consultant Clinical Scientist at the Kings College Hospital Toxicology Service in London which is operated by Viapath.
