Dr Seshagiri Rao Nimmagadda MBBS; MRCPsych; FRCPsych; DPM; MEWI; MMedSc (Clinical Psychiatry); LL.M (Mental Health Law)

Forensic Psychiatrist since 2004

 

As a part of Dr Nimmagadda’s higher specialist training in Forensic Psychiatry, he has acquired the requisite competencies in writing expert psychiatric reports to the Courts and in giving oral evidence.

 

He regularly provides independent psychiatric reports to Criminal Courts, the Parole Board, Family Courts, and Mental Health Review Tribunals. Dr Nimmagadda have expertise in conducting mental capacity assessments as per the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and regularly gives oral evidence before various Courts and Tribunals in England including on occasions in the Court of Appeal, the Parole Board and Family Courts. 

 

In the last 20 years Dr Nimmagadda has been involved in complex issues applying ‘McNaughten rules’ and ‘Diminished Responsibility’ and gives evidence to the parole board as well.

 

Dr Nimmagadda covers areas such as risk assessment of violence towards others, Psychiatric aspects of ‘Fitness to plead’, Homicide, Physical Violence, Sexual offences, and Arson.

 

Specalist Area of Work

As a Forensic Psychiatrist Dr Nimmagadda has expertise in assessing the risk of harm to others. He regularly conducts assessments and gives his opinion to various Courts and Tribunals in this respect.

He has been employed as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist at Thornford Park Hospital for more than 6 and ½ years. Thornford Park provides care and treatment to mentally disordered patients in conditions of medium and low securities. This hospital is a part of Priory group of hospitals. He holds RC (Responsible Clinician) responsibilities for 28 in-patients, most of whom have complex and chronic forensic psychiatric histories. He regularly furnishes reports to the Ministry of Justice on restricted patients.

 

Dr Nimmagadda has experience in carrying out psychiatric assessments in various secure settings including prisons, special hospitals, secure units and open settings.
